Cara Quinn // (she/her)

The Know Your Mothers Project is a resource of modern icons, spiritual practices, studies and reflections on the lives of women in the Bible and the history of the church.

“Mothers of the church” is defined as those who have nurtured, grown, advocated, supported, served, prophesied, taught and exhorted the church in the world for the liberation of all and for the mission of Christ.

This project recognizes the marginalization experienced by non-binary and transgender individuals, particularly in the church. Know Your Mothers is for all people and all gender expressions. The content developed here is created for the encouragement and spiritual growth of the whole church and not just “women”.

How Know Your Mothers Began:

This project began as an Instagram account and blog in March of 2020. During Covid lock-down my husband and I created a daily Bible study iPhone app that taught on women in church history and the Bible using the Revised Common Lectionary. This content is now being released one week at a time on the downloads page under “bible studies”.

I am excited we now have launched a shop for prints and other products and the work of Know Your Mothers is growing and evolving faster than ever!

About Cara:

Know Your Mothers was founded by me, Cara Quinn a year after graduating from Seminary. I design, write and create all the content myself. I am a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary with a Masters in Theology. My undergrad degree is a Bachelor of Fine Art in Advertising and Graphic Design. My previous career of 20+ years was as an Art & Creative Director in advertising, mostly in New York City. I still freelance as an art/creative director in advertising from time to time.

The past few years I have been (very) busy leading the launch of a new interdenominational church in Santa Monica, CA. You can check out the church’s website here.

For family reasons, our family of six relocated to San Antonio, Texas, in the fall of 2023, where my husband, Sean, grew up.

I grew up in Columbus, OH and outside Philadelphia, PA. Sean and I met in NYC where I worked in advertising as a creative and he worked as a software engineer. We spent the first decade of our marriage there before moving to Los Angeles where we lived from 2018-2023.

I am so excited for this next season of life which has led me back to focusing on Know Your Mothers and writing icons, bible studies and curriculum for the stories of mothers of the church to be told and celebrated more widely!

Drop me a line anytime! I love questions and collaboration! Cara@KnowYourMothers.com
